C-Section Recovery Program

Your Recovery Deserves More

A C-section is major abdominal surgery, yet postpartum recovery often focuses on healing the incision and getting through those first few weeks. Once you're home and caring for your baby, there may be little guidance on how to rebuild mobility, reconnect with your core, and support your body as it continues to recover.

That's where rehabilitation comes in. Your recovery deserves more than simply waiting for your body to heal. It deserves intentional care that supports how your abdomen, pelvis, and body move and function after surgery.

Supporting Your Recovery With Mercier Therapy

Mercier Therapy is a specialized form of external manual therapy developed by Dr. Jennifer Mercier that focuses on mobility and function within the abdomen and pelvis. After a C-section or other abdominal or pelvic surgery, areas of restriction, scar tissue, and changes in tissue mobility can influence how these tissues move and function together. Mercier Therapy uses targeted techniques to support abdominal and pelvic mobility, circulation, and tissue movement as your body continues to recover.

While the C-Section Recovery Program is designed specifically for women recovering from C-sections, Mercier Therapy can also be used to support recovery following other abdominal and pelvic surgeries, including gynecological procedures. Care is tailored to your surgical history, recovery, and individual goals.

The Process

The C-Section Recovery Program consists of six 60-minute Mercier Therapy sessions, typically scheduled once weekly over 4–6 weeks. The series provides consistent support as your body continues to recover and adapt after surgery.

Care can begin six weeks after your C-section with clearance from your physician. Your incision must be adequately healed, with no wound separation, active infection, or significant pain at the incision site. For other abdominal or pelvic surgeries, the appropriate timing to begin care will depend on the type of surgery, your individual recovery, and clearance from your surgeon or healthcare provider when appropriate.

Your first visit begins with a thorough health and surgical history so I can understand your recovery, concerns, and goals. We’ll then assess your abdomen and pelvis and, provided you have been medically cleared for care, your first Mercier Therapy treatment will typically take place during the same visit.
