C-Section & Abdominal Surgery Recovery
Your Recovery Deserves More
Whether you've had a C-section, endometriosis excision, hysterectomy, or another abdominal or pelvic surgery, your body has been through a significant event. Yet recovery often focuses primarily on the incision and getting through those first few weeks. Once you're back to everyday life, there may be little guidance on how to restore mobility, reconnect with your core, and support the tissues and structures that continue to heal beneath the surface.
That's where rehabilitation comes in. Your recovery deserves more than simply waiting for your body to heal. It deserves intentional care that supports how your abdomen, pelvis, and body move and function after surgery.
Supporting Your Recovery With Mercier Therapy
Mercier Therapy is a specialized form of external manual therapy developed by Dr. Jennifer Mercier that focuses on mobility and function within the abdomen and pelvis. After a C-section or other abdominal or pelvic surgery, areas of restriction, scar tissue, and changes in tissue mobility can influence how these tissues move and function together. Mercier Therapy uses targeted techniques to support abdominal and pelvic mobility, circulation, and tissue movement as your body continues to recover.
The Process
Your care program is individualized based on your surgery, recovery, and goals. A series of six 60-minute Mercier Therapy sessions may be recommended, typically scheduled once weekly over 4–6 weeks.
Care may begin around six weeks after a C-section with physician clearance and once the incision is adequately healed, with no wound separation, active infection, or significant pain. For other abdominal or pelvic surgeries, timing will depend on the procedure and your individual healing, with clearance from your surgeon or healthcare provider when appropriate.
Your first visit includes a thorough health and surgical history, followed by an assessment of the abdomen and pelvis. If you have been medically cleared for care, your first Mercier Therapy treatment will typically take place during the same visit.
